What Makes McKeesport?

McKeesport Area High School’s Red & Blue newspaper contributors spent last spring exploring the city and asking residents about their experiences living in McKeesport and why choose to live here. The students also asked their subjects to share their favorite memories and if they had any advice for them and their peers. They discovered that what makes McKeesport is deep sense of pride and the determination to keep traditions alive, as well as the importance of making the most of their high school years.

Salute to Santa Parade 2022

Hundreds of spectators gathered on Fifth Avenue in McKeesport to watch the 57th annual Salute to Santa Paradedespite the frigid weather. This year’s Grand Marshall was incoming lieutenant governor and McKeesport resident Austin Davis accompanied by his wife Blayre Holmes-Davis.

Over 50 organizations participated in the parade including the McKeesport Little Theater, McKeesport Area High School Marching Band and Cheerleaders, entertainer Joey Young and the Carnegie Library of McKeesport.

The Mon Valley Photography Collective recently spent a morning exploring and documenting the vibrant Triple B Farms Fall Festival in Monongahela, Penna. The 400-acre farm has been in operation since 1985 and offers pick your own fruits and vegetables, baked goods and family friendly activities.

The Mon Valley Photography Collective recently documented George Washington Slept Here and other fascinating stories at Renziehausen Park in McKeesport. The event featured local actors portraying historical figures who helped shaped McKeesport’s legacy and was co-sponsored by McKeesport Regional History & Heritage Center and the McKeesport Little Theater.

The Mon Valley Photography Collective, in partnership with Venture Outdoors, recently explored and documented the former steel mill that at its peak employed 15,000 laborers and produced 1000 to 1250 tons of iron a day.
